Newars in Katmandu marked "Black Day"








It's been a decade a couple of immigrant judges issued verdict, on a petition of a handful of immigrants, against the decision of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, that the city, nurtured by the Newars for over 2,000 years cannot used their local language auxulary to the government's "Nepali" language for its official language. It was an insult to the 85 ethnic grups and over a hundred local laguages and their dialects.

The Newars observed this day, raising black flags at the historic Hanumandhoka Dubar, and warned the Constituent Assembly that the new constitution, beiing drafted, must assert equal rights of all languages spoken in the country, to save the country from further conflicts.
